Richmond County deputy charged after audit of Flock license plate reader system
Jaquarius Yarbrough was booked June 25 in Richmond County on felony charges after the sheriff’s office said a routine audit found the deputy used the Flock license plate reader system for personal reasons.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the audit was conducted June 25 and led investigators to conclude Yarbrough accessed the system outside official law enforcement duties. The sheriff’s office said Yarbrough was assigned to the Transportation Division, had no authorized law enforcement need to use the system as part of his duties, and over a 28-day span ran repeated searches tied to at least one license plate.
The sheriff’s office said Yarbrough was arrested, taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center and terminated from his job. Booking records show he was charged with illegal use of law enforcement agency captured license plate data and violation of oath by public officer. The investigation remains active, according to the sheriff’s office.
