Privacy policy

CSRA Crime publishes public arrest records sourced from county sheriff’s offices and detention centers in the Central Savannah River Area. This policy explains what data we collect about visitors, how we use it, and what choices you have.
What we collect from visitors
We aim to collect as little as possible. The site is operable without accounts, without cookies, and without any third-party trackers.
- Server logs. Every request is recorded by our hosting infrastructure with the IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, and timestamp. These are retained for up to 30 days for abuse detection and operational debugging, then discarded.
- Analytics. We run a self-hosted Umami instance for aggregate page-view counts and referrer information. Umami does not use cookies, does not track across sites, does not store IP addresses, and does not collect or store any personal data. No third party receives this data.
- Search queries. When you use the search box, your query is sent to our search index (Typesense) and processed in memory. We do not log individual queries tied to your identity.
What we collect when you contact us
If you submit the removal or correction request form, we store the email address, name (optional), referenced record, and the reason you provide. We also record the time of submission and the IP address for rate-limiting and audit purposes.
This data is retained for at least the duration of the request, the 30-day SLA, and a subsequent audit window. Resolved requests may be retained indefinitely as part of our internal audit log so we can show why a record was removed or amended.
What we collect about the people in records
Records on this site are drawn from publicly-released booking sheets published by the county sheriff’s office or detention center responsible for each booking. We restructure those records into a searchable database; we do not add information that the source agency did not publish.
If a record about you is inaccurate, out of date, or no longer appropriate to publish, please use the removal or correction request form. There is no fee.
Cookies
The site does not set any tracking cookies. A small amount of data is stored in your browser’s local storage to make the removal-request form easier to use (autosaving your draft so you don’t lose it on accidental navigation). This data never leaves your browser. You can clear it from your browser settings at any time.
Who we share data with
We do not sell, rent, or trade visitor data or removal-request data with any third party. Site infrastructure (hosting, search index) runs on services we operate ourselves; no analytics, advertising, or data broker companies receive any data from this site.
We may disclose information in response to a valid legal process (such as a subpoena) or where required by law.
Your rights
Whether you live in California (CCPA/CPRA), the European Union (GDPR), or another jurisdiction with similar law, you have the right to know what data we hold about you, to request a copy, and to request correction or deletion. Send your request to [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
Note that records of arrests are public records, sourced from public agencies; deletion requests for those records go through the removal/correction process, which has its own policy beyond data-protection law.
Children’s privacy
The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page. For significant changes affecting how we handle existing data, we will note the change visibly on the homepage for at least 30 days.
