A Richmond County grand jury has indicted William Wyche, 34, of Hephzibah in a case involving a missing 16-year-old girl, and authorities say the girl has been recovered. Booking records show Wyche was booked in Richmond County on July 23 on charges including trafficking of persons for sexual servitude and sexual exploitation of children.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said the indictment was returned Aug. 5 after his Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit presented evidence to the grand jury. Carr said Wyche is accused of harboring and soliciting the girl for sex.
Carr's office said Wyche faces five counts of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Carr also said Wyche was taken into custody on July 22.
The girl was recovered by the attorney general's Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to Carr. Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley said the recovery and indictment show what can happen when local, state and federal agencies work together.
Carr said the case was investigated by the attorney general's Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the GBI, Gwinnett County police, the Georgia Department of Human Services Special Investigations Unit, the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Marshals Service.
