Kevin Butler, 46, was booked Sept. 22 in Aiken County on a charge of children/cruelty to children (torture, deprivation) after an investigation that began at a Graniteville elementary school.
According to an incident report, deputies were contacted Sept. 15 after school staff noticed a child had cuts on his legs. The child told investigators he had been struck with a cord after getting off the school bus the day before, and said the injuries made it painful to sit.
Investigators documented lacerations and bruising on both legs. During a meeting at the school, Butler allegedly told an investigator he knew about the marks and said they came from striking the child with a cord and a stick.
A Department of Social Services intake team was notified, and a safety plan was put in place limiting Butler to supervised visitation with the child.
