Deputies said the two-vehicle crash happened around 9:50 p.m. at Walton Way and Seventh Street when the driver turned left into the path of an eastbound vehicle.

Mekhi Tolliver, 21, was booked July 22 in Richmond County on charges including first-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to yield while turning left after deputies said he caused a July 4 crash in Augusta that killed an 86-year-old woman. Booking records also list a child restraint law violation.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the two-vehicle crash happened around 9:50 p.m. at Walton Way and Seventh Street when Tolliver was turning left from westbound Walton Way onto Seventh Street and entered the path of an eastbound vehicle in the intersection. Authorities identified the woman who died as Carolyn Reed Fletcher, 86, of Augusta, who was riding as a passenger and died at Wellstar MCG Health after the crash.
The sheriff's office said Tolliver was also charged with two counts of violating Georgia's child restraint law.
