An Augusta man was arrested after a parking dispute escalated into an alleged hammer attack.
Harold Acker, 74, was booked Oct. 9 in Richmond County on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal trespass. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the case stems from an Aug. 9 confrontation involving two neighbors in Augusta.
Deputies said the pair were placing a board at the property to block parking when Acker came from a nearby property, shouted a threat and rushed at them while holding a hammer. One of the neighbors told deputies Acker had been told to stay off the property but entered the yard anyway.
During the confrontation, the man fell backward over the board and suffered scrapes and bruises to his feet and ankles. Deputies reviewed video and said it showed the two neighbors backing away, including the man falling as he moved back quickly and the woman running toward a vehicle. The footage also showed an object in Acker’s hand, though deputies said it could not be clearly identified.
