Burke County fugitive is booked after chase and gunfire, deputies say

Patrick Benjamin Buxton was booked July 18 in Burke County on charges including aggravated assault against a peace officer after deputies said he fled a traffic stop in Waynesboro and fired a handgun toward pursuing deputies.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office said deputies got information July 18 about Buxton's location while he was wanted on an active felony probation warrant. Deputies said they found him driving a blue 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer, chased him through Burke County after he did not stop, and arrested him after he abandoned the SUV and ran at a construction site on Quaker Road.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators found a Taurus G2s 9mm handgun that Buxton allegedly threw away during the chase, and authorities reported two apparent bullet strikes in the SUV. No deputies were injured, and the sheriff's office said Buxton went to a local hospital for a medical evaluation before he was booked.
