McCormick County teen charged after 13-year-old dies at lake dock

Thirteen-year-old Daryl Martinez Lowry was found dead at a residential boat dock in Modoc on July 20, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

SLED charged 17-year-old Landen Austin Moore with murder the following day. An arrest warrant describes Moore as a white male who is approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. Authorities have not released a booking photo of Moore.

Investigators allege Moore held Daryl underwater, causing him to drown. Warrants also allege Moore and an unnamed 16-year-old were involved in a physical altercation with Daryl at the dock, where the 13-year-old suffered knife lacerations.

Moore was booked into the McCormick County Detention Center. The 16-year-old accused in the case was taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, according to SLED.

The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will handle the prosecution.
